In 2008, photokina – the leading international trade fair for the photographic and imaging sector – is continuing its long history of success. With still about five months to go before the fair opens, the available exhibition space is nearly sold out, with more than 90 percent of the space already booked. Companies continue to show very strong interest in the trade fair. Koelnmesse reports, for example, that more than 100 new exhibitors have already registered to present their companies and products for the first time at photokina.
Many of the exhibiting companies – including Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, Canon, and Leica – are also once again expanding their exhibition areas this year, with some exhibiting at much larger stands, continuing the positive trend of recent years. According to photokina’s organizers – Koelnmesse and the Photographic Industry Association – the reason for the growth is the trade fair’s unparalleled global importance for the photographic and imaging industry.
And this has also been recognized at the Redmond, Washington, headquarters of the software giant Microsoft: following a hiatus in 2006, this year the American global player is returning with a large stand at photokina. In addition, General Imaging, a new supplier in the camera segment, will for the first time be presenting its products at photokina. A total of about 1,600 companies from roughly 50 countries are expected at photokina.
photokina will take place from September 23 to 28, 2008, at the Cologne exhibition center. The fair is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to trade visitors and the public.
